Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum Hits ‘Super Team’ Notion With Harsh Take After Game 2 Loss
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics are undeniably loaded. They have Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown , Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White. They also have Kristaps Porzingis, who is on the mend still after suffering an injury in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. With or without Porzingis, though, the Celtics should have not been beaten by such a huge margin by the Cleveland Cavaliers at home in Game 2.

But that’s what happened, with Boston absorbing an embarrassing 118-94 loss at the hands of Donovan Mitchell and company.

Boston Celtics’ Jayson Tatum Sounds off on Super Team Notion

Such a loss has brought extra attention again on the Celtics inability to take care of business despite a star-laden roster, and that has Boston star forward Jayson Tatum seemingly annoyed.

Via Michael Scotto of HoopsHype:

Jayson Tatum on expectations for the Celtics: “That’s the narrative you might see on TV, the idea that we have a super team. It’s twofold. We didn’t have the Coach of the Year or MVP. We only had two All-Stars. They say we’re a super team, but we didn’t get rewarded like we are.”

The Celtics won a total of 64 wins in the regular season. No other team won more than 57 games. That’s a testament to the greatness of this Boston squad. The talent on the Celtics’ roster is a huge reason why they’ve accomplished all that, but Tatum could also be pointing out that there’s more to them than just being a collection of fantastic weapons.

In any case, Tatum and the Celtics will aim to reclaim the momentum in the Cavs series when they take their turn to play as the road team in the series this Saturday for Game 3 in Cleveland.
