Friday February 10, 2012-Greetings and welcome to The Daily Sports Grind. As the calender turns into February our favorite time of year here at The Grind is quickly approaching.
Rivalry Week has long been considered the actual New Year. Conference hierarchy's are being set. Bubble teams are rising like Mrs. Brady's temper and falling like the hopes of a candidate without a trillion dollars. No matter how much sense he might make.
The best games we may see all year on any level are taking place right now in Chapel Hill, NC and in Columbia, Mo. These two games are the shining example of what the players and coaches aspire to reach and the gold standard the NCAA will point to when it is time to renegotiate TV contracts. It just does not get any better.
Thoughts to chew on while waiting for pitchers and catchers to officially report: Jeff Suppan has a job with an MLB team (San Diego Padres) and Roy Oswalt does not.
In what has to be an unprecedented move, Nick Diaz apparently decided he needed to mellow or be less aggressive for his fight at UFC 143 with Carlos Condit, as post-fight urine tests indicate a positive for marijuana. No report on whether this was used for pain management or recreation. Like at a party.
OF Nelson Cruz was allowed to reach into the Texas Ranger cash barrel before it closed and grab $16million over the next two years avoiding arbitration. Nolan Ryan has done a job instituting a new mindset for his pitchers, effectively eliminating the pitch count slavery while instilling a "finish what you start" attitude. Still wondering where that ridiculous ($51 million)posting fee for Yu Darvish decision comes from. Wonder if Wash and Josh had a long lunch at the local version of Scores. Later posts on the Rangers to follow.
